The bull, Alwent Goldbar, comes with a TSI of +84 and an SRI of +77, coupled with a high eye muscle score of +7.5 and strong growth figures for both 400 and 600 day weights at +69 and +81, respectively.

Cogent’s Boomer Birch said having seen the bull’s EBVs he was sure he’d be something special, but seeing the bull in the flesh reaffirmed this in his mind.

“Genetics like this do not come along very often, and Goldbar not only has figures that rank him in the top 1% of the Charolais breed, but he also has fantastic breed character,” he says.

Goldbar is by one of the in vogue Charolais sires, Blelack Digger who leaves plenty of progeny with easy calving attributes and is out of Alwent Daffodil, who comes from the same family as 70,000gns Barnesford Ferny.

Speaking about the sale Steve Nesbitt said Goldbar was without doubt the best bull ever bred at Alwent Hall. “His dam, Alwent Daffodil, is an easy fleshing animal with terrific growth, and when she scanned exceptionally well, we decided to flush her as a maiden heifer.

“Goldbar is the first son to result from this flush and is a combination of two genetically outstanding animals.”
